Congratulations to Our Grade 3 & 5 Students

This week, our Grade 3 and Grade 5 students showed incredible Determination and Excellence as they completed all their NAPLAN tests. We are so proud of the effort, focus, and resilience they demonstrated throughout the week. Four tests is a lot to have to undertake.

NAPLAN can be challenging, but our students tackled each test with a positive attitude and a commitment to doing their best—true reflections of our school values!

Every student should be very proud of themselves for giving it their all, and a huge thank you to our teachers and staff for supporting them along the way. A big shout out to Mr McCormick who is our Naplan co-ordinator who makes sure everything is all ready to go. No matter the results, the hard work and perseverance you have shown are what truly matter.

Keep striving for your best—we are proud of you!

Special Visitors at Gowrie St

Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming our Area Director, Sharon Hensgen- Smith, and our Regional Director, Karen Money to Gowrie Street Primary School.

They were incredibly impressed by what they saw—from our calm and focused learning environment to our lovely facilities, dedicated teachers, and most importantly, our wonderful students.

Sharon and Karen commented on how beautifully mannered our students were, how happy they were to share their learning, and how proud they are to be part of such a supportive school community.

A big thank you to our students and staff for making their visit so special—you showed exactly what makes Gowrie Street PS such an amazing place to learn and grow.

Supporting Healthy Eating at School

At Gowrie Street, we are committed to promoting healthy eating choices for all students. Every day, we provide nutritious morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea to ensure that all children have access to balanced, wholesome meals.

If you choose to send food from home with your child it must be a healthy option for them to eat at lunchtime such as a sandwich, dinner leftovers, salads etc. This has been in place for some time now. We are now kindly asking that if you send other food, for snacks, that it also be a healthy choice to support our school’s focus on good nutrition. Please avoid sending lollies, chocolate, or any drinks other than water. You will find these will come back home and this is where we are saying these kinds of food are best eaten- after school and as a treat.

By working together, we can help our students develop lifelong healthy habits that support their growth, learning and emotional well-being.

Thank you for your support in making our school a place where healthy eating is the norm!

Here is the poster Chelsea our healthy eating co-ordinator has made for our classrooms.

Lunch Week 8

Language and Culture

As part of our Language and Culture program we are hoping to extend our learning to home! We would love to teach you some language so that you can be using it at home and out and about! We will add new words to each newsletter!

Chess Club in Full Swing at Gowrie St

This term, lunchtimes have been buzzing with strategy and competition as our Chess Club works hard to learn this great game. With Mr. E guiding our students through the rules and tactics of the game, our aspiring chess masters have been sharpening their skills and building their bank of strategies.

Right now, 20 talented players from Grades 4-6 are battling it out in our in-school lunchtime tournaments.

The top six players will earn the honor of representing Gowrie Street PS in an exciting

inter-school chess competition later this term.

On Thursday, March 27th, we’ll face off against students from Grahamvale PS, Guthrie Street PS, St Georges Road PS, and Kialla West PS in a five-round tournament to determine the ultimate chess champion.

Stay tuned for more information about this exciting event.
