Why We Saying “No” to Lollies at School

At Gowrie Street Primary School, we are committed to creating a positive, healthy, and focused environment for all our students. Recently, we’ve noticed an increase to children bringing lollies to school and this h

as led to some challenges, including:

  • Arguments and Disagreements: Sharing or trading lollies has caused disputes among students, creating unnecessary distractions during learning time.

  • Behavioral Issues: Consuming high-sugar snacks has contributed to dis-regulation and difficulty staying on task in class. We have seen aggression towards teachers who try to deal with situations by taking the lollies and keeping them safe until the end of the day, when they are returned to students.

  • Health Concerns: Lollies are not only high in sugar but also pose risks to dental health. Our goal is to encourage healthy habits that support students’ overall well-being.

Healthy Habits Start at School

To support our school values and promote better choices, we have a no lollies at school policy. If students do bring lollies to school they will be asked to give them to their teacher and they will be kept safe up at the office and be able to be collected at the end of the day.

We appreciate your support in reinforcing this at home. Together, we can create a school environment that promotes learning, positive behavior, and lifelong health.

If you have any questions please feel free to email eron.chapman@education.vic.gov.au.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
